Instructions

  1. Cut an inch-wide strip from a piece of paper. Colour one side with a pen or pencil. Follow the coloured side with your finger. How many sides does it have?
  2. Tiwst one end with 180⁰ degrees (half around) and tape the ends together.
  3. Follow the coloured side once more. How many sides does the strip have now?

What happens?

A Mobius strip only has one side. When you twist the strip and close the two ends together, you effectively tape the inside to the outside. Therefore, you end up with just one side. Try to twist one side 360⁰ degrees and cut along the middle of the strip. What do you get?
