Scientist Factory’s Math Skittles is an educational outdoor game that can be played by the whole family. The first to get 50 points wins, though precision is key. If you get more than 50, you lose 25 points.
Math skittles is the perfect family activity for a sunny day. This educational outdoor game gets you outside and moving, and ensures that both the body and the brain get a proper work out. Warning! Frequent use might make the whole family champions of arithmetic.
Math Skittles Rules
The fun thing about Math Skittles is that you can make up your own rules. We recommend these rules as a starting point:
- The goal is to get precisely 50 points
- You gather points by adding together the numbers on the pins you manage to knock over
- The nearest pin should be three meters away from where you are standing as you throw
- Players only get to throw once per round
- Only underhand throws (like bowling) are allowed
- When a pin is knocked over, it should be placed where it lands. It then becomes harder to hit the most popular pins because they will move further away from the players. This also introduces strategical thinking to the game, because players have to consider what pins they should hit to make the game harder for their opponents
- If a player surpasses 50 points, they lose 25 points. Players who are approaching 50 points should therefore aim carefully
You can alter the rules for example by increasing the distance at which you throw from, how you throw, how many points you have to get to win and how you measure the points. For example, maybe you throw twice per round and multiply the numbers on the pins.
Math Skittles is great for both bodily coordination and arithmetic skill. It is the ultimate educational outdoor game for the family. The practical carrying bag makes the game easy to store and bring to the beach, on a hike or to a family party.
