Giant Water beads

These water beads are made of a polymer that absorbs 300 times its own weight in water. It is exciting to watch them grow and to investigate what happens if you take them out of the water. Fully developed, you can use them as decoration or water your plants when you are away.

They can also be used as magnifying glasses and teach you some important facts about how light moves through different materials. If you put a small seed inside one of the water beads, you can carefully observe how a sprout releases and begins to grow.
